Eggebraaten Book Signing: Local resident Tim Eggebraaten, an entertainer, inspirational speaker, and now author, will be at Bluebird Books in downtown Detroit Lakes (813 Washington Ave.) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to sign copies of his new book, "Find Your Beat: Walk in the Rhythm of Life." The book will be available for purchase at the event, which is open to the public.

Night at the Lake Park Museum: The Lake Park Area Historical Society will host its annual Night at the Museum from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This year's theme is "The Price is Right," which focuses on past prices of everyday items, so attendees are asked to bring an item or photo of an item and share its cost, past and present.

Dyslexia Workshop: The Becker County Museum in Detroit Lakes will host two free workshop sessions on "Dyslexia Awareness, Signs and Adaptations," from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. This workshop, sponsored by the Becker County Early Childhood Initiative and West Central Initiative, will be led by Jen Eggen of the nonprofit organization "High Hopes," and is geared toward parents, educators, caregivers, employers and anyone else who is interested in learning more about this inherited, neurologically based disorder that interferes with a person's ability to acquire and process language. Charitable Pint Night-CornerStone: Bucks Mill Brewing in downtown Detroit Lakes will host a Charitable Pint Night benefiting Frazee's CornerStone Youth and Community Center from 5 to 8 p.m. A $1.50 portion of the proceeds from each pint sold during the event will directly benefit the Frazee-based non-profit organization, which has a mission of "partnering to develop a healthier community by providing healthy food, mentoring, physical fitness, arts, culture, and skill building in a safe and caring environment.

Abstract Art With Music: Come to Jollybird Studio in downtown Detroit Lakes (901 Washington Ave., in the space above Counselor Realty) from 6:30-9 p.m. for an evening of artistic expression that delves into the work of abstract artist Wassily Kandisky. This unique individual lived with synesthesia, a condition where he was able to see colors when he heard music, and hear music when he painted. Kandisky explored these sensations in unconventional, artistic ways. Learn how to create your own abstract art while listening to music. Pork and Meatball Dinner: Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes will host a pork and meatball dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Both dine-in and drive-through options are available. Cost is $10 per meal, which includes mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, bread, carrots, dessert and your choice of meat — meatballs or pork loin roast. A portion of the proceeds will go to support Grace Lutheran church activities.

HolmesSpun Theatre 3: The third installment of Detroit Lakes' popular, locally written, produced and staged community theater series, "Holmes Spun Theatre," will make its debut on the Historic Holmes Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Written by Brent Gerber, this theatrical play will tell stories of the Detroit Lakes community over its 153-year history, through music, humor and song. Humane Society Garage Sale: The Humane Society of the Lakes will host a garage sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HSL shelter, located at 19665 US Hwy 59, Detroit Lakes. Items available include pet supplies, office supplies and animal clothes; most items are used, but still in good shape. Open to the public.

Frazee Polka Fest: Come to the Frazee Event Center (114 N. Lake St., Frazee) between 1-7 p.m. for the community's annual Polka Fest, with live polka music from both the Leon Olsen Band and Gary's Ridgeland Dutchmen, who will alternate performances every hour. Music will include waltzes, two-steps, polkas, country and variety, for your dancing pleasure. Admission is $20 for adults; kids age 18 and under can enter free of charge. Food and beverages available for purchase.

Spring Meatball Supper: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 13130 Co. Hwy. 39, Frazee (intersection of highways 87 and 39), will host a spring meatball supper and bake sale from 4:30-7 p.m., serving homemade meatball, gravy, mashed potatoes, an assortment of salads, bread and lemon dessert. Suggested donation is $10 per meal. All are welcome.

Color Guard Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Suggested donation is $8 for a meal including scrambled eggs; pancakes or French toast; sausage or bacon; and coffee or orange juice. Plenty of tables, lots of space. Open to all.

Richville Pancake Breakfast: Come to the Richville Community Center from 8 a.m.-noon for a pancake breakfast and help support the community center. Cost is $8 for adults; children are welcome. The community center is located at 38596 Egret Road in Richville.

Just for Kix Spring Show: The talented, hard-working Just for Kix dancers will take the stage at Detroit Lakes High School at 1 p.m. for their spring show. Open to the public.

Say Yes to Bingo Fundraiser: Detroit Lakes VFW Post 1676 will host a special bingo fundraiser for the Lakes Area Yes Network, with doors opening at 1 p.m. and the first game being played at 2 p.m. Event tickets are $24 each, which includes 12 games of bingo; meal and drink tickets sold separately. All prizes are cash, donated by local businesses; minimum prize is $150. Advance tickets may be purchased at the VFW, which is located at 500 Washington Ave.

Genealogy Work Session: Did you know the library offers free access to genealogy research tools? Come to the Detroit Lakes Public Library at 1 p.m. for a two-hour work session on navigating the library's various genealogy resources. This program will be facilitated by library staff. Be sure to bring along some family information to aid in your research.

Earth Day Crowler Planting Class: Bucks Mill Brewing in downtown Detroit Lakes (824 Washington Ave.) will host a Earth Day crowler planting class, with an assist from Bergen's Greenhouses, starting at 6 p.m. Both beginner and advance gardeners welcome; the $15 class fee includes a special event crowler featuring custom artwork from local artist Hannah Spry, all plants and planting materials, and one complimentary pint of the beverage of your choice. Lakes Area Chorale Pizza Fundraiser: Detroit Lakes' Pizza Hut restaurant will be helping to support the Lakes Area Chorale by donating 20% of its sales from dine-in, takeout and pickup orders throughout the day (12 a.m.-11:30 p.m.) back to the local community choir, which boasts an active membership of about 60 singers from around the Detroit Lakes area. Library Club: Sucker Creek Preserve founder and naturalist Sally Hausken will be the presenter at this month's Library Club meeting, which takes place in the library's main meeting room from 2-3 p.m. Hausken's presentation will focus on the biodiversity of native plants, insects and birds. Becker County Disability Transition Resource Fair: The Becker County Transition Interagency Committee is holding a Transition Resource Fair from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Room C-101 (auditorium) in Detroit Lakes. The fair is free and open to all communities. This event is a unique opportunity for students and young adults with disabilities, families, caregivers, teachers, employees, and community members to connect with various outside agencies and providers. Attendees will have the chance to explore resources related to employment, leisure, independent living, communication, benefits, and more. With over 25 community agencies in attendance, there will be a wealth of information and support available. Draw Your Feelings: The Holmes Art Cellar, located on the basem*nt level of the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes (806 Summit Ave.), will host a class on meditative mark making with artist Emma Tomb, starting at 6 p.m. Students will learn to connect their mind and emotions to a drawing, as Tomb leads them through making a pen-on-paper drawing to help channel themselves into their art. The final project will be a large scale, abstract ink drawing. Cost is $25 per student, with all supplies included. Welcome to artists of all skill levels, ages 16 and up. Open Acoustic Jam: Bring your acoustic instruments to the Detroit Lakes Public Library for an unplugged jam session, starting at 5 p.m. All experience levels are welcome to this supportive and family-friendly event. Build Strong Bones: Pelican Landing in Detroit Lakes will host a free workshop by Progressive Therapy, starting at 5 p.m., which will cover both osteoporosis and osteopenia as well as some tips for keeping bones strong and healthy at any age and stage of life. Open to the public.

Celebration of Heroes: The United Way of Becker County will present the annual Celebration of Heroes awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn, 1155 U.S. Hwy. 10, Detroit Lakes, from 5-7 p.m. Besides Everyday Hero honors in both the adult and youth categories, other awards to be presented will be for Community Spirit (both individual and business) and the Bob and Michelle Harris Memorial Award, which honors one person each year for extraordinary leadership, advocacy and community spirit. Laker Prep Charitable Pint Night: Come to Bucks Mill Brewing in downtown Detroit Lakes (824 Washington Ave.) from 5-8 p.m. and hoist a pint or two in support of Lakeer Prep Preschool and Earl Childhood Center, the area's largest non-profit child care center for kids from infant through kindergarten age. The night will be filled with family-friendly games and activities and an opportunity to learn how Laker Prep embodies its motto, "Big Success Starts Small." A portion of the proceeds from every pint sold will benefit this child-centered Detroit Lakes nonprofit.

'Ticking Time Bomb' Presentation: The Center for the American Experiment (CAE) will host a presentation titled "Ticking Time Bomb" at Lakeside Tavern and Brewery, 1355 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This presentation by the west central chapter of CAE, featuring CAE economist Martha Njolomole and communications director Bill Walsh, will focus on "Minnesota's expanding welfare system and other wasteful spending." Barn Quilt Painting Class: Detroit Lakes Community Education will be presenting a Barn Quilt Painting Class at the Lincoln Education Center, 702 Lake Ave., from 5:30-8 p.m. This class will be led by traveling artists from the Blue Fox, who will guide participants in creating a 14x14-inch painting of a beautiful barn quilt on a reclaimed wood pallet. Lakes Crisis and Resource Center Spring Banquet and Auction: The Lakes Crisis and Resource Center of Detroit Lakes will host its 33rd Annual Banquet and Live Auction from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Historic Holmes Theatre's Midwest Bank Ballroom. Event will include a catered dinner from La Barista, games of chance and a silent auction, culminating in a live auction filled with valuable prizes and luxury experiences. Learn why pollinators are important, make a pollinator seed bomb and bee hotel, and be the first museum guests to view the new Smithsonian traveling poster exhibition, "Pollinator Investigation." St. Peter's Fish Fry Fundraiser: St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Audubon will host a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. The church is located at 194747 Co. Hwy. 6, near Pit 611 in rural Audubon. Proceeds will be shared with the Becker County Food Pantry.

Lake Eunice Wild Game Feed: The congregation of Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church will host their annual Wild Game Feed starting at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy a wide variety of wild game options, and bring your own dish to share with the group. Admission is a free will offering. The dinner will also feature a live presentation by avid hunter and fisherman Sam Bauer. The church is located at 12986 Co. Hwy. 15, Detroit Lakes. The Fabulous Armadillos: The Fabulous Armadillos will be doing their third and final show of the season at Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre at 7:30 p.m. This "Acousti-Dillos" concert will feature acoustic-inspired hits through the decades, with musicians Paul Diethelm on guitar, Jay O'Donnell on drums, Mike Zeleny on bass guitar and Greg Armstrong on keyboards. Lakes Area Community Concert Band: The Historic Holmes Theatre will host a spring concert featuring the Lakes Area Community Concert Band from 4-5:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend this free concert by more than 50 of the area's best musicians, but free will donations will be gratefully accepted to support the band.

Red River Model Train Show: The Washington Square Mall will host the annual Red River Model Train Show on April 27-28. Model train collectors and operators from around the region will be showcasing their best trains from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and again from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday. Open to the public.

Dynamic Homes Open House: The spring open house for Dynamic Homes will take place on April 26-27 at 525 Roosevelt Ave., Detroit Lakes. Come tour the local Dynamic Homes Factory and model homes and chat with their expert staff from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, April 26 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Open to the public.

Women's Retreat at Camp Cormorant: A retreat for area women age 21 and up will take place at YMCA Camp Cormorant in rural Lake Park from April 26-28. Events include workshops led by Barb Owen-Boerger and Cheryl Cullen, and a "Painting and Wine" event led by Detroit Lakes artist Anna Lassonde. Library History Exhibit: The Detroit Lakes Public Library will be hosting "Testify — Slavery to Today: The Diane and Alan Page Collection" from April 15-May 3, during its regular public hours. This impactful traveling exhibit contains images of physical artifacts belonging to former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and NFL Hall of Famer Alan Page, which were painstakingly photographed and memorialized to illustrate the struggles experienced through slavery, segregation and discrimination. Grief Support Group: Hospice of the River Valley is offering weekly support group sessions in both Detroit Lakes and Perham, every Wednesday from April 3-May 8. These sessions are for anyone coping with a significant loss through death. Each week will begin with a brief educational session, followed by sharing and listening of stories within the group. All grief support classes offered by Hospice of the Red River Valley are free and open to the public. Registration is required for all classes. Holmes Art Cellar Open Studio: Come join members of the Holmes Artist Collective at the Art Cellar every Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Work on a project, start something new, or just come to spend some time with area artists. Various art events will also be scheduled during this time throughout the year; suggestions for activities or other ideas to include are welcome. Free and open to all; no need to pre-register. This open studio is also held concurrently with monthly meetings of the Holmes Artist Collective, which are held on the second Thursday of every month.

Wood Carving Open Studio: Wood carvers of all skill levels are welcome to join the local carving group at the Holmes Art Cellar in Detroit Lakes every Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. Bring wood carvings to show and/or take part in a free woodworking session. Pattern books and other resources available for checkout. No cost to participate.

Grace Cafe: Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes will be serving lunch every Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. The lunch is open to all in the Detroit Lakes area; admission is a free-will donation. Guests are welcome to stay after the meal to play games or cards.

Grace Food Pantry: Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes will be operating a food pantry during its regular office hours, 9 a.m.- noon Monday through Friday. Anyone in need can come in and pick up some food. Donations will also be accepted.

Celebrate Recovery: The Celebrate Recovery group meets every Tuesday, 6:30-8 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 28048 Meadow Drive, Detroit Lakes, to take the next steps on the "Road to Recovery: Eight Principles Based on the Beatitudes, Twelve Steps and their Biblical Comparison." Many struggle with alcoholism, divorce, sexual abuse, codependency, domestic violence, drug addiction, food and gambling addictions. Celebrate Recovery is a tried and proven format to help you walk through life's struggles. Caring Cup Grief Support: The Caring Cup, a gathering of community members who are dealing with the loss of a loved one, will meet at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes on the second Wednesday of every month; the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee on every third Wednesday, and West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes on every fourth Wednesday. TOPS Meeting: The local chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets weekly on Thursday mornings at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1400 Corbett Road, Detroit Lakes. HR Connect: The Detroit Lakes Chamber is hosting an opportunity for human resources professionals, business owners and managers to connect, every first Thursday of the month at 8:15 a.m. at the Chamber office at 700 Summit Ave. Discuss human resource topics, share best practices and review data to help attract, retain and grow the workforce for the lakes region. Event is free for Chamber members, $10 for non-members.

Library Storytime: The Detroit Lakes Public Library offers weekly Preschool Storytime sessions every Thursday, and Family Storytime every Saturday, both at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and their caregivers/families are invited to join library staff for stories, flannel boards, finger plays, songs and more. Baby Bounce: Songs, stories, and action poems for infants, toddlers and their caregivers are offered every Monday at the Detroit Lakes Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Program runs about a half hour including playtime and chatting with other caregivers. Overeaters Anonymous: A 12-step program for those who struggle in their relationship with food, Overeaters Anonymous continues to meet at noon every Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
