Vegetarian dog treats, like the recipe we’re sharing today, are a great alternative to constantly giving your pooch meat-filled goodies. They’re especially beneficial to pups with allergies to certain types of protein sources. While this particular recipe does call for flour, you can easily swap out a wheat-based one for something like coconut flour or almond meal. The rest of the ingredients are pretty allergy-friendly (unless your dog is allergic to eggs). You can also mix up the vegetables a bit. For example, instead of using just carrots, maybe go with carrots and sweet potato chunks.

Let’s check out how to make this simple vegetarian dog treats recipe! Watch the video tutorial right below, then print out the recipe card so you have it handy for when you’re ready to whip up a batch!

Benefits of Carrots for Dogs

If you’re curious about why we used carrots in our recipe (versus one of the zillion other veggies out there), check out these benefits of Bugs Bunny’s favorite crunchy treat:

  1. Promotes good eyesight: Carrots are high in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body, and this helps to promote good eyesight in dogs.
  2. Boosts immune system: Carrots contain antioxidants that help to boost the immune system of dogs, keeping them healthy and preventing illnesses.
  3. Aids digestion: The fiber in carrots helps to improve digestion in dogs and prevents constipation.
  4. Promotes good oral health: Their crunchy goodness helps to clean teeth and massage gums, promoting good oral health in dogs.
  5. Helps with weight management: Carrots are low in calories and high in fiber, making them a great treat for dogs on a diet or trying to manage their weight.
  6. Provides hydration: Did you know that carrots are 88% water? They really help to keep dogs hydrated, especially during the hot summer months.
